      This majestic cathedral is the third largest in height among all Russian churches and is located at the traditional venue of the Nizhny Novgorod Fair. We are talking about Alexander Nevsky Cathedral on the right. The first stone was laid July 15, 1868 g, the Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich, and all construction was carried out by the architect, RJ Kileveyna.

      From 1869 to the 1870s were carried out major construction work and made the overlap on charitable donations. Icons painted by famous painter FA Moscow Sokolov. In addition, the icons were transferred to Macarius Monastery. July 20, 1881, the cathedral was consecrated in the name of St. Alexander Nevsky. For decades, the temple was popular among buyers as well as among ordinary citizens.

      Unfortunately, in 1930, in accordance with the decision of the Soviet authorities decided temple is closed, and church utensils and icons confiscated. Icons used as firewood to heat the local households. Parishioners were able to preserve the miraculous icon of the Mother of God of the Holy Cross, which until recently were stored in Vysokoe church.

      For a long time the temple was used as a warehouse or residential areas. Only from 1980 began large-scale restoration work on the creation of new tents, murals and iconostasis on archival documents. Currently, you can visit and admire pyatishatrovy amazing cathedral with a large gilded head.
